fall class 2010
Three Trainings for Transformation
5-week course with optional Saturday workshop in the Buddhism and Yoga Series
The Buddhist and Yogic traditions have long championed congruent paths of personal development, offering maps and methods that comprehensively transform lifestyle, attitude and outlook. From a traditional perspective, meditation and yoga practice alone do not lead to inner peace and happiness, but must be combined with an understanding of how reality works and an application of this insight into everyday life.
Through guided meditation, lecture and discussion, this series will explore the Buddhist trainings (trishishya) of Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom as they correspond with the Yogic paths of Action, Devotion and Knowledge. Excerpts from seminal Indian classics including Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita will illuminate how an aspiring yogi trains body, heart and mind to achieve their highest human potential and to help transform the world.
The optional Saturday workshop will provide the opportunity for deeper exploration of course themes through guided meditation, yoga poses, breath work, chanting and discussion. All levels of yoga practice welcome. No prior meditation experience necessary. Workshop is stand-alone for those who would like to drop-in.
